Rhonda Radley Anjilkurri nee Moran-Holten (also known as Dr. Aunty Rhonda)
I am a proud Birrbay/Dhanggati woman from the mid-north coast of New South Wales, living and working on my saltwater, freshwater ancestors’ Countries. As an active Aboriginal community Elder I promote the revival of culture through language and practices. My passion is the revitalization of Aboriginal languages, I advocate for Aboriginal languages to be learnt, spoken, taught and integrated into every-day life.
Story telling is a cultural practice that can come in many forms, dance, song, spoken words and imagery. I use poetry as a medium to share stories of my personal experiences, insights into my culture and to highlight the importance of caring for Country.
Being a grandmother, I am concerned about what my grandchildren will inherit and how they will navigate complex matters such as, the environmental challenges, connection to Country and the understanding of Aboriginal values, principles and practices. I try to instill in my grandchildren a sense of cultural pride and ensure they have the know of how to care for Country. I acknowledge, I am because of my ancestors and I do because I love my grandchildren.
