Dr Juanita Kwok is an award-winning professional historian and heritage consultant who specialises in Chinese Australian and regional histories and heritage.
She completed an arts degree at the University of Sydney and BA Hons and PhD at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst. Juanita is President of Our Chinese Past, a not-for-profit association which conducts projects to support local museums in preserving, researching and promoting Chinese Australian heritage artefacts in their collections. Juanita is co-author of the school text book Film Asia: New Perspectives on Film for English, commissioned by Curriculum Corporation Victoria, which won the Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) National Award for Best Reference Resource for Secondary Teachers in 2003. In 2022 Juanita was the recipient of the History Council of NSW Max Kelly Award for her journal article, ‘The Lambing Flat Riots and the Chinese Quest for Compensation’, published in the Journal of Australasian Mining History in 2022. Juanita regularly writes journal articles and presents on her research at conferences and is a member of the Professional Historians Association of Australia.
