Stories for Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery
Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery
Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery is located in the historic mining city of Broken Hill, on Wiljali Country, in the Far West region of New South Wales.
Housed in a grand 19th century building in the central business district, this is the oldest regional art gallery in New South Wales. Along with its permanent displays, the gallery hosts a busy program of temporary and touring exhibitions and two prizes: the Maari Ma Indigenous Art Awards and the Pro Hart Outback Art Prize.
Held in its collection are the works of some of Australia’s finest colonial, modern and contemporary artists, including Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Emily Kame Kngwarre and Michael Nelson Tjackamarra, Arthur Streeton, Rupert Bunny, George Lambert, Noel Counihan and John Olsen, along with the works of acclaimed local and regional artists Sam Byrne, William ‘Badger’ Bates, Jim Paterson and Pro Hart, among others.
